Sound System help on hookin up
« on: February 04, 2011, 03:47:48 AM »
Lets talk sound systems. I picked up a Picasso Soundstream PCX 2.540 540W Amp. Seen here: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_24507_Soundstream-PCX2.540.html
I am running 2 10 Inch MTX audio Subs ranging 500W a piece.
Mounting it on the rear plate of the backseat between the rear speakers. Where can I run the wires in the interior without being seen to the radio and battery?

Power wire is 8 Gauge

You have a few choices here.  But 8 gauge wire is awful big to try to hide.
1. You can run all the cables under the carpet in the middle of the car on (most likely) the drivers side.
2. A better way is to make a hole in the floor, find a rubber grommet much like used in your fire wall for the speedometer cable, and run the wires under the car and run them through the front end support brackets up to the battery.

Personally, I'd live with the line under the carpet.  But you'd have to run the wire through the same hole as the speedometer cable or drill a new hole in the firewall near it.  Remember to always keep those sharp metal edges of a new hole off a moving line by putting in or making a grommet of some sort.

I hope this helps.

Mike is right. I have my CB antenna and a couple other wires running from the trunk to the firewall going down the drivers side up against the transmission hump. I put down the heat/sound shield and then laid the wires out and taped them down to the floor. The rear seat and the console will hide any humps in the floor.

Good Ideas ya'll. Im mainly lookin to hide it anywhere. The carpet and rockers are great ideas. I'll drill holes, I need to anyways lol
The rear plate will support the amp and speakers. Im drilling holes through there and running them from woofers to Radio and battery. Just hiding them is hard.

The 8 gauge wire is a little big (or dare I say PHATT..LOL) for that area. But it would be good for speaker wires as well as a positive lead to the amp from the head unit.

the gutter is 1" wide x .75" deep  .  8 gauge wire is about the size of your little finger

My amp uses RCA cables leading to the Radio. David, How big of holes did you drill?? Or did you even cut at all?

Right wire gutter works then cross over under the seat like GM did with the power window wiring on the drivers side do this on the passenger side.

Also think about mounting the speakers verticaly behind the rear seat then you are not cutting the package tray out. I am assuming you are wanting "punch" and bass out od the subs when saying this. Will also cause less distortion on the 6x9s. we have cool little GM style 6x9 enclosures to prevent bass distortion in the trunk compartment through the 6x9s and they are cheap.

I am running 2 15 inch Infinitys and matching amp with a set of 6x9s in mine and works good nice pop and punch. Plus I can get a little Ghetto if the mood hits.

I used a step drill bit in the firewall to the left of the brake pedal and used a grommet for the 4 guage to run through.
